About the Teachers ![]() Suzi Caunce MRSS(TT), Cert Ed FAHE Suzi initially trained as a Dietician Catering Manager, but finding many of her questions unanswered, she went on to study macrobiotics, an oriental holistic therapy which includes shiatsu, diet and yoga. Suzi spent two years in the U.S.A working in macrobiotic organisations to gain practical experience. On her return she was invited to work as part of the team of therapists at the East West Centre in London, where she used shiatsu, yoga and cooking with a variety of acute and chronic conditions. During the 1980s she taught in Canada, U.S.A. , Europe and Africa. In 1981 Suzi was invited to be an original member of the Shiatsu Society and has over 20 years experience of practitioner training. She has helped in the development of professional training into a 3-year diploma course which now includes the use of Traditional Chinese Medicine along with Traditional Five Element diagnosis. She is Principal of the Heart of England Shiatsu School and a Shiatsu Society Assessor. Suzi studied to be a yoga teacher with Mr. Bo-In Lee in Boston Massachusetts and consistently attended Oki Yoga Classes and classes in hatha yoga with Maxine Tobias. Suzi is currently studying Dru Yoga with the Life Foundation. Suzi has done a great deal of post graduate training in cranial work/ magnet therapy/ seiki and counselling/process work. ![]() Teresa Hadland HSEC MRSS(T) Teresa became interested in Oriental Medicine and Shiatsu whilst living in Edinburgh and moved to London to complete her studies with the Kushi Institute during the early 80's. Her enthusiasm took her to Japan where she studied Shiatsu at Iokai Dojo in Tokyo (formerly Masunaga's school) and completed her Oki Yoga training. On returning to England she became qualified in Healing Shiatsu with Sonia Moriceau. Teresa has a young family and lives in Northamptonshire, where she has a busy practice. ![]() Cathy Sullivan (Class-Room Assistant) Cathy trained as a Shiatsu Practitioner at the Institute Nei Guan, Amsterdam qualifying in July 2001. She now works as a Practitioner at the Birmingham Centre for Chinese Medicine. Presently she is studying for a post-graduate diploma in Shiatsu with the Shiatsu College, Norwich. As part of her initial training Cathy completed a thesis on the effectiveness of Shiatsu in M.E. She has worked with people with this condition in her practice & other conditions including lower back pain, pre-menstrual syndrome, pregnancy, migraines/headaches, and digestive problems. Cathy is also interested in the practice of Qi Gong and Yoga and is currently training to be a teacher of Yoga. |
