Frequently Asked Questions FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS. How much does it cost? The cost of the whole training should be over £5,000 including course materials. You are required to wear cotton clothing and to bring a natural fibre blanket or a futon to work on. Handouts are provided, but a notebook is also a good idea to record your own impressions. The total cost of recommended books is around £100.00 for the whole training. Do I need special equipment? The minimum you will need at first is to wear loose cotton clothing and bring a notebook. You will need to have purchased a futon [currently under £100] before Clinic practice in your second module. You can ask your local library to order any book that you wish. Rarely, a School may require you to take exams, most do not. Usually a reference is required from your previous school. Some students train with a number of schools before applying to the Shiatsu Society who require that you complete 500 hours of training. If I need to miss classes, what options are open to me to catch up? We are assessing continuously and there are several ways that you can catch up: · With important information the course is structured so that classes begin with a recap of the previous one. Then you are assessed. With continuous assessment it is essential that you keep up. · 30% of your out of classroom work can be revision, so you can get together with student/s in your practice group to cover the lost ground to prepare for assessment or in non assessed areas. · Each module includes two tutorial sessions to allow for missed testing. Tutorial sessions are available @ £30.00 per hour, you could organize with some other students to cover the subject with a Teacher. Tutorials are essential if you miss course assessments. I do not wish to be a therapist what can I get out of doing the training, is it relevant? The aim of shiatsu is to teach people to be responsible for their own health, so you could study one module only to give you the tools to further this. You will learn to work safely & with a high degree of skill on family and friends. It is advisable that you maximize your potential to acquire knowledge through regular practise and keeping a diary. I already practise a therapy, what can I gain from doing the Foundation Module? Shiatsu focuses on grounding and breathing which make you stronger and more sensitive to yourself and your own needs as well as being more present and effective whilst treating clients.
