The Heart of England Shiatsu School offers the full 3-year training programme to professional level, including postgraduate studies and teacher training. The School uses premises in Stratford-upon-Avon town centre close to rail and motorway links. The centre is at an exceptionally attractive venue with a beautiful garden and is a sanctuary for everyone who visits. We also use a yoga studio in town and larger venues for visiting teachers. At present the cost of the full 3-year training is over £5,000 Experience necessary to study Shiatsu You need no previous experience of shiatsu to study. As shiatsu is practised on a futon at floor level, it is essential that you are reasonably flexible and able to work on the floor. It is helpful if you enjoy using your hands.......... The focus on teaching Shiatsu skills The focus on teaching shiatsu skills is practical at all levels to ensure that your work meets the Shiatsu Society's standards. How to qualify as a Shiatsu Practitioner During your training you are expected to carry out 300 recorded treatments showing your development. Case histories are presented at all levels of the training so that you are prepared for the Society's exams. Tutorial support is available to support you throughout your training. On a weekly basis, commitment to the training means that you are doing two treatments, exercising and keeping a diary recording how knowledge of oriental principles and diagnosis has increased your understanding of life and yourself. The diary enables you to do other written work included in the training. Shiatsu Society Assessors supervise your final exams. After this and completion of all the assignments, you receive a diploma from the School. This course is run to Shiatsu Society requirements and incorporates their baseline curriculum. The Shiatsu Society require that you do an extra year under the supervision of the School and complete certain tasks. To qualify as a shiatsu practitioner eligible for recognition by the Shiatsu Society you will need at least 500 classroom hours taught by three different teachers. Assessment and Evaluation Assessment and evaluation are seen as the building blocks of your relationships with your Teachers and you are required to keep your assessments up-to-date. Not keeping up to date with your assessments you will incur additional expenses. A mature, open and honest approach is essential to good practice and relationships with clients. Assessment is ongoing throughout the whole course with some written projects and examinations. Group Support Each group of students is encouraged to support each other in their training and to provide a network for all students to practise. Course numbers are limited and there are assistant teachers on each course to help students to learn and to look after their welfare. We also have a learning support unit. Students are encouraged to have fun and to develop in a way that furthers safe practice. |
